Protecting your goods

Why you need to take out protection for your goods while in storage

We know your possessions are valuable. That’s why we take good care of our stores and make every effort to make sure your goods are safe and secure while in storage. However, no matter how unlikely or how small the risks may be, there are some things we just can’t guarantee to safeguard your goods against. This is why all our customers must have adequate protection for their goods, whilst in storage.

At Make Space, we can offer this protection under “StoreProtect”, which is an agreement by us to accept an enhanced liability for Loss or Damage to your Goods which may occur during storage.

.

How does StoreProtect work?

You’ll need to add up and tell us the total replacement value of all the goods you want to store with us if you had to buy them new.  We would then work out a quote based on your stated value, which is called the "Maximum Replacement Value".  Upon acceptance of the quote and with the fee paid, you’ll place your goods into your storage unit, lock the door, and walk away with the knowledge that your property is immediately protected under StoreProtect.

It's important that you notify us promptly if, at any time you need to increase the Maximum Replacement Value of your stored goods.

Please read our StoreProtect Addendum for more details of StoreProtect including conditions and exclusions.

.

Is goods protection compulsory?

Goods protection is compulsory.  Anyone that wishes to store with us must either adequately insure their goods or opt for StoreProtect.  If you opt for StoreProtect, you have the option but not the obligation to insure your goods.

With StoreProtect, you benefit from continuous protection for your goods (providing the StoreProtect fees are paid on time).  StoreProtect fees are paid in advance, in line with your invoice frequency, which is normally every 28 days or monthly.  You only pay for the days that you use and will be refunded any unspent fees.  14 days’ notice is required.

If you arrange your own insurance, you must provide proof that the policy is in place before you store with us, and you must ensure it does not lapse while you still have goods in storage.  Any policy you arrange yourself must cover the Maximum Replacement Value of your goods, and cover goods stored in a self-storage facility like ours.  The policy must specifically state our company name and the address of the facility you are storing at.  Our staff cannot not give any advice concerning insurance cover given by any policy and you must make your own judgment as to adequacy of cover.  Inspection of any insurance documents provided by you to demonstrate cover does not mean we have approved the cover or confirmed it is sufficient.

What if I need to make a claim?

Our StoreProtect Addendum sets out clear guidelines on how to make a claim.  If you needed to make a claim, we will handle your claim professionally and efficiently.

Under StoreProtect, we are accepting the liability which means you wouldn’t have to make a claim against your own policy and potentially affect your ‘no claims’.

If you would like more information, or would like a quote for StoreProtect enhanced liability, please contact your local store.
