Storage FAQ's
How does Self Storage at Make Space work?

You can also easily swap to a smaller or larger room whilst in storage if you need to. Self storage at Make Space is flexible, secure and hassle free. Our storage experts are on hand to help you select the best storage space for your needs and give ongoing support you whilst you’re storing with us.

Security of your goods and possessions is paramount. To protect them, our storage centres have staffed receptions, sophisticated alarm systems and 24hr CCTV surveillance. Access to our storage centres is controlled with Pin-code entry. Also, you are the only one with access to your room, which is locked with a padlock owned by you. Do I need my own padlock?
Yes, you need your own padlock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your room and to ensure that your room is securely locked at all times. Make Space stock a range of high security padlocks.
How much does it cost to store with Make Space?
The price you pay is determined by the size of the room you need and we will always get you into the smallest space possible. As the rental charge is calculated according to the floor area of the storage room, the smaller the floor area the less you end up paying.
Estimating the space you need isn’t as simple and straightforward as it looks. It depends on:
- What you need to store
- How stackable it is
- How high the ceiling of the storage room is
- Where the storage room is located in the storage centre, generally ground floor is more expensive
- What sort of access you will need since you may want to leave a walkway through the storage room to get to your possessions.
We can advise you on how to stack your goods and possessions to make maximum use of the space.
In the meantime, if you would like to get a rough idea of how much space you might need, you can use our size estimator.
How does Make Space's Lowest Price Guarantee work?
The Make Space Lowest Price Guarantee is simple: we will beat any local comparable quote if it's cheaper and presented to us within 28 days of moving in by 10% for the first 8 weeks and thereafter will price match for the anticipated length of stay.

This offer applies to individual self storage rooms of the same size as the competitor (not container storage) within a 2 mile radius of the store inside the M25 and within a 5 mile radius outside the M25. What is included in the price - are there any hidden extras?

Can I use my Business Insurance policy at Make Space?
Business customers have the option of insurance through the Make Space policy or provide their own.
If business owners choose to supply their own cover, they will be required to supply a letter/policy from the insurance company specifying:
- The sum insured
- The cover start and end dates
The Make Space address where they are storing their goods. Business owners choosing to supply their own coverage must ensure that, at a minimum, it covers the same “Insured Perils” as detailed in the Make Space T&C’s. Make Space will need to take a copy of your business insurance policy and retain this on file with your rental agreement. These documents will need to be supplied annually to Make Space as they expire.

Insurance FAQ's
Do I need insurance?
Yes, your goods must be insured whilst in storage. Make Space offers tailored insurance according to the true replacement value of your goods. For an estimate, add up the full replacement value of the items you are storing and call your local store.
Why do I need insurance?
You need insurance to protect your goods from harm or damage or in case of emergencies. Make Spaces insurance will cover the building, so you need insurance to cover your own belongings.
What are the benefits of specific self storage insurance
Our self storage insurance is designed specifically for items in storage facilities like ours. Many home policies do not include storage cover and because our insurance is designed specifically for items in storage, it doesn’t affect the ‘no claims’ on your home insurance or claims you might make on your home insurance in the future.
Your insurance quote will be based on the full replacement value of what you’re storing with us, which is why we can’t give you an insurance quote at the same time as your storage quote.
Why do I need to contact you to find out the price of your insurance?
Customers store a wide variety of different items so the value cannot be determined solely by the room size.
What is the minimum insurance required?
All items placed in storage with us must be insured for their full new replacement value. Make Space insurance covers customer’s goods on a new for old basis.
Security FAQ's
What kind of security systems do Make Space have in store?
To protect your goods, our storage centres have staffed receptions during opening hours. Access to the storage areas is strictly controlled and you are the only one with access to your room, which is locked with a padlock owned by you.
Each store is equipped with 24hr CCTV and the buildings are protected by individual intruder alarms. Outside of trading hours, the alarms are monitored by Secom PLC and Full Stop Fire & Security, and include police attendance.
Do I need my own padlock?
Yes, you need your own padlock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your room and so you can make sure that your room is securely locked at all times. Make Space stock a range of security padlocks in our stores.
What happens if I lose my key?
Everyone loses things from time to time and if you lose your key it’s not the end of the world. Once your identity has been confirmed, Make Space will cut the lock from your storage room so you are able to access it immediately. It will be necessary to acquire a new lock for your room after this, so it is advised that this is only a last resort option.
What is the procedure for entering and exiting Make Space premises?
Customers are required to sign in and out of the premises or use their issued electronic fob to gain access during opening hours. The electronic fobs should be used out of normal opening hours where customers have pre-arranged 24 hour access.
How does Make Space verify my identity?
Prospective customers are required to provide forms of ID that allow us to check:
- Full name – forenames and last name
- Signature
- Date of birth
- Full permanent address
You must provide original documents, not photocopies, and one form of identification must contain a verified photograph, such as a passport or driver’s licence.
All identity verification is done face to face, never over the phone or by email, as your identity cannot be fully confirmed by these methods.
Photographs are taken by web cam and retained on file once your rental contract is signed. These images require full view of your face and cannot include any family or colleagues; only the person signing the contract is allowed in the image. A new web cam image will be taken with every new contract that is signed to maintain an up-to-date identification process. This is so that new or covering staff are able to easily identify you as Make Space clients and maintain the overall security of the Make Space premises for all our customers.
Can I add an additional named contact for access?
You are able to give access to your room to family/friends/colleagues but their details must be added to your contract in advance and their identity verified as above.
