The Secret Nuclear Bunker in Kelvedon Hatch was designed to offer shelter for up to 600 military personnel whose job it would be to organise the survival of the population following a nuclear attack. This complex underground installation is accessed via a tunnel that starts in a simple bungalow.
The bunker, which is the largest and deepest Cold War bunker that’s open to the public, was decommissioned in 1992 and is now owned by the Parrish family. Visitors to the bunker can experience a self-guided tour via handsets and can even try on military uniforms and gas masks.
But that’s not at all, the land surrounding the bunker is also home to numerous activities such as Nuclear Races, High Ropes, Archery and a live escape game - ClueHQ.
