Things to Do with the Kids in Essex over May Half Term

17th May 2017

With half term fast approaching once again, you might be wondering what you can do with your kids during the break. Although it’s not as long as the Easter break, it can still be difficult finding things to do with your kids over the May half term. But there are plenty of activities to keep your kids entertained in Essex and we can help you make the most of the break. Have a look through our round up of the best events -  there's bound to be something that your kids will love!

Barleylands Farm Park, Billericay

A fantastic day out with the kids is just around the corner from Make Space Billericay at Barleylands Farm Park. During the May half term, you can take your children along to become a little farmer and enjoy a fun filled day out that’s a bit different. The event provides your kids with the chance to get behind the wheel and drive a specially designed mini Landrover around a mini off-road course. Along with plenty of other activities including butter making, scarecrow crafting and bottle feeding lambs, your kids will love the little farmer’s event this half term. Take a look at the event online here.

Festival of Southend

A fantastic attraction that you might want to get down to over the bank holiday is the Festival of Southend, which is fun for all of the family. The event takes place in Chalkwell Park and is an exciting mix of crafts, music and child-friendly activities that are perfect for the whole family to enjoy. There’s plenty to see and do at the festival and the great thing about it is children can go for free! There will be a dedicated KidZone and a host of fun fair rides to keep children of all ages entertained. Parents and grandparents can enjoy plenty of artisan crafts, food and drink on offer at the event, too. Find out more about the festival here.

Magical In the Night Garden Trails, Rettendon Common

If you are looking to get outdoors then a fun event for younger children is the garden trail at RHS Hyde Hall, Potters Farm. This event is entirely free and you can pick up a complimentary trail map at the garden centre or simply download the app before you arrive. This great day outdoors brings your toddlers' favourite In the Night Garden characters to life. There are also plenty of other activities to do at RHS Hyde Hall and there is a great barn restaurant and a field café on site. See more about the event on their website here.

City Camps, Chelmsford

Another great activity this May half term is the city camps in Chelmsford. These are available for a half day or a full day session and your kids can have a great time with a whole range of activities to enjoy. There is a host of fun indoor activities that you children will love and what’s more, the city camps provide care for your children to give you some time for yourself over the half term. Whether you use this time to relax or complete your to-do list, it’s a great way to give your children something fun to do over the half term. Book your child's place or find out more about the city camps here.
